Mimi Rothschild and Learning By Grace Podcast

HOST: Welcome to Episode 2 for the Learning By Grace Podcast.  Today we have on the line Janice Williams, homeschooling mother of 4 and one of the curriculum developers at Learning By Grace, Inc.  Mrs. Williams, thank you for joining us on the program.

JANICE WILLIAMS:  Thank you very much.

Q:  Can you start off by giving some background information on Learning By Grace and what your various online academies provide for students and families?

A:  Sure. Learning By Grace was founded in 2001 and is a Christian-based online home schooling program for students enrolling from Pre-K through 12.  Our home school curriculum is comprised of multimedia activities using e-texts, workbooks, video, audio, and much more.  Learning By Grace encompasses multiple online schools and programs such as The Jubilee Academy and Morningstar Academy.  With comprehensive online support, students learn at their own pace where they are free from negative peer influences and the distractions of traditional educational environments commonly found in the public school systems.  Our company is global in nature and we have helped tens-of-thousands of families around the world since our inception.

Q:  Homeschooling critics often cite the lack of social interaction as a reason for parents not to home school their children?  How would you respond to this criticism?

A:  I’m glad you brought that up --- the idea that homeschooled children are somehow deprived of socialization with peers is a common misconception.  You know, these kids are not confined to their homes and we actually encourage parents to network with each other.  Upon request, we will connect parents with each other within their geographical areas for play dates and other types of social events.  Additionally, I think we can all agree that the socialization that currently takes place in most schools often tends to be negative, not positive.  Influences such as profanity, drugs, sex and worldly thinking are permeating our nation’s public schools.  Homeschooling offers freedom from such distractions and allows students to pursue educational excellence from a Godly perspective.  At the same time, however, we do not forsake the importance of peer-to-peer relationships and encourage connecting with like-minded parents to offer a positive socialization experience.

Q:  Mimi Rothschild is one of the co-founders of Learning By Grace and has been instrumental in the company’s success.  Can you give a little background information on Mimi and how she came to start Learning By Grace?

A:  Sure. Mimi has been a children’s rights advocate for quite some time.  Her interest in child-related issues began at the age of 10 where she began a door-to-door campaign for hungry kids in Africa.  Several years later, she led one of the nation’s first Walks for Hunger, where she helped raise money for malnourished kids overseas. As the mother of 8 children, Mimi recognized the importance of homeschooling and individualized educations.  After homeschooling several of her own children, Mimi began promoting the homeschooling concept to others and authored multiple books and published articles on the subject.  Her passion then led to several successful business ventures and eventually, she and her husband founded Learning By Grace in 2001 to improve the quality of curriculum for homeschooled children around the globe.

Q:  OK, can you give some contact information for our listeners if they want to learn more about your company and its services?

A:  Sure, you can visit our website at www dot learning by grace dot org.  Or you can also call our office during regular business hours, eastern standard time, at area code 215-487-3700.

Ok, today we’ve been speaking with Janice Williams with Learning By Grace.  Mrs. Willimas, we appreciate you taking the time to speak with us and we look forward to learning more about your programs again in the near future.

A:  My pleasure, thank you very much.
